Doc Memei Joins Small Wonders as Board Announces New Leadership

Small Wonders Trust is proud to announce the new leadership of its Board and welcomes Dra. Carmelyn Lozada-Madrono as the newest Trustee for 2011-2014.

Over the years, Small Wonders relied on the financial and moral support of family and friends in order to fulfill its objectives of giving the children of Bayabas, Surigao del Sur a head start in education.  Dra. Madrono, known to many of us as simply Doc Memei, has been one of the Trust's most staunch supporters and to a very large extent have become the trustees' extended arms (and legs).  We could not thank her enough for all the generous work and help she has done for the Trust, without which we could not have delivered our mission so graciously in Bayabas.

We are delighted of her acceptance to our invitation for her to become a member of the Small Wonders Board of Trustees for the years 2011-2014 to Chair the newly formed Grants Committee.  As the Grants Committee Chair,  Memei will be liaising with our intended beneficiaries, evaluating  and recommending the community/school needs that the foundation should give priority to.  Her recommendations will be reviewed and approved by the Board and as a whole, makes the final determination of grants to be released and disbursed.

As a well-respected member of the community, Small Wonders is honored to be officially represented by Memei to both our donors and beneficiaries, especially in the Philippines, where the rest of us (Trustees) are physically not present.

As the outgoing Chairman of The Board, I would like to thank my beloved cousins Inday and Maria from the very bottom of my heart for the unwavering commitment they have given the foundation. In the six years since the inception of Small Wonders, it has established its place as a reliable partner of the community  in gathering and channeling resources to provide help in areas that are otherwise sufficient in delivering services to its recipients, especially in the field of education.  Without the passion of Inday and Maria and our many friends and members of our family, we could not have achieve so much in bringing everyone together for our town's much needed help and support.

And now with equal pride and honor, I lovingly pass on the leadership torch to Inday, who has been my true 'partner-in-crime' -taking all our family and friends hostage, "emotionally blackmailing" :) them in dipping deep into their pockets to help us make good of our promises to the children of Bayabas, of doing what we can to help improve the quality of their learning.

About Small Wonders Trust (Foundation)

A brighter future for every child...
 
The love of children, the desire to make a difference and to give back by way of sharing one's blessings are few of the moving inspirations of Small Wonders Trust.

Small Wonders Trust is a non-profit organization that aims to be the channel for generous individuals and other organizations to contribute time, experience, monetary and other gifts to public schools in Bayabas, Surigao del Sur that are otherwise equipped with the necessary resources that will allow them to teach elementary and secondary students more effectively.  We hope to help give every child a chance towards a brighter future.

Small Wonders works closely with schools to align objectives and in determining needs to be put forward to the attention of the Trust's network of sponsors and donors for fulfillment. Whenever possible, it shall also aim to raise the overall standard of schools environment to a more updated level.

To sponsor project/s and pledge donation/s, please get in touch with any member of The Board for Current Projects Wish List. Sponsorships and donations may be directly sent to recipient schools under our close coordination. Small Wonders will oversee the successful implementation of every project, beyond the delivery of donations.

Meet the Founding Trustees:

Cousins Maria, Susil and Inday; during a holiday trip in New York City
in July 2005 formed Small Wonders Trust. 

Getting to know the Founding Trustees:

Maria, Susil and Inday are descendants of The Simacon Family of Bohol.  Maria lives in Atlanta, Georgia, while Susil is a permanent resident of Hong Kong and Inday is in Stuttgart, Germany.  Although living in different continents of the globe, the cousins keep in constant touch and whenever possible get together to hold fund raising drives and personally deliver grants to Bayabas - a place the three calls "hometown" having spent most, if not some parts, of their childhood there.
